How bacteria-fighting 3-D-printed teeth could affect dentistry
Researchers at the University of Gronengen are working on the creation of a 3-D printed tooth made of an antimicrobial plastic that kills the type of bacteria responsible for tooth decay on contact. In this study, researchers embedded antimicrobial quarternary ammonium salts inside existing dental resin polymers. Once the mix is put in a 3-D printer, it can be hardened with ultraviolet light and used to print out 3-D replacement teeth!
